Advising sheet – A suggested 2 year formatted plan for you to complete all courses for your desired degree/certificate.
Bursar – The office that manages the financial affairs of a college or university.
Class Schedule Abbreviations – Your class schedule will use the abbreviations M, T, W, R, F to indicate days of the week you are expected in class. If your schedule says MWF, you are expected to attend class on Monday, Wednesday, AND Friday. If your schedule says TR, you are expected to attend class on Tuesday AND Thursday.
CLEP - College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests created and administered by College Board.[1] These tests assess college-level knowledge in thirty-six subject areas and provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses.
Co-requisite – Courses that must be taken at the same time
Credit hour - The unit of measuring educational CREDIT, usually based on the number of classroom hours per week throughout a semester
Degree requirements – All required course you must take to obtain the degree of your choice

Dual Admissions - A structured, guaranteed pathway for progressing from an associate’s degree directly to a bachelor’s degree. Students get personal contact with advisors at both institutions during the program to aid them in developing their coursework for their degree program.
Early Alert – Program for instructors to communicate with their students when they are not succeeding in their courses as a way to check in with an individual student to address the reasons why and what they can do to improve.
FERPA- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act - is a federal privacy law that gives parents certain protections with regard to their children's education records, such as report cards, transcripts, disciplinary records, contact and family information, and class schedules.
Financial Aid Verification - Verification is the process used to double check all the
information you submitted on the FAFSA. Important: Submit all the papers required to the
Financial Aid office as soon as possible
Honors - Participate in academic enrichment activities such as attending conferences and field trips related to your studies. Interact closely with faculty on special projects promoting active investigation and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Apply to the Honors program at Nashville State and challenge your talents.
Hybrid class - Courses in which some traditional face-to-face "seat time" has been replaced by online learning activities. The purpose of a hybrid course is to take advantage of the best features of both face-to-face and online learning.
NS Online (D2L) - Online Learning offers learning experiences in which the students and instructors do not share the same physical space. These courses and programs maintain the quality of on-campus offerings, yet offer convenience and flexibility. Some courses require on-campus testing or proctored testing at a selected site.
Pre-requisite - Prerequisites are courses that must be taken before another course
Purge – A student’s classes will be dropped if their tuition and fees are not paid
