Academic Plan: Get Started

Creating your academic plan at NSCC

Which Degree?

If you are thinking of reconsidering your degree and major see our Degrees organized by Career Pathway. To see all of our programs including our technical certificates go here

You can change your major online via the Change of Major link found here. You can only change your major when registration is open.

Even if you can't change your major, you can still make an academic plan for a new major.

Which Classes?

There are two ways to see which classes you should take when making an academic plan: (1) Find the Advising Sheet for your major on the college website (2) Find your Degree Works worksheet via myNSCC. Short videos on how to do both are below. We recommend you look at both the Advising Sheet and Degree Works worksheet.

  • The Advising Sheet will list all the classes you need to take on one page as if you took them in four semesters. For transfer degrees, the Advising Sheet also indicates if their are special requirements for different transfer institutions.
  • The Degree Works worksheet will show the classes organized by type like Communication, Mathematics, and Area of Emphasis. Degree Works also shows which classes you have taken that apply to your degree.

What If you have decided to change your major and that is not reflected yet in your Degree Works worksheet? You can do a "What If" I changed my major for any degree and major and Degree Works will show the classes you need to take. Instructions on how to do a What If are in the last video below.

Who Can Help?

Your advisor can help you select the right classes for your plan.

Not sure who your advisor is? Here are two places that list your advisor. Also described in video below.

  • Advisor Place 1: Log into myNSCC and click 'Advising Resources' on the left side. Your advisor will be listed there.

Check Your Plan

You can make a plan in Degree Works and then check to see if it works. You may have already made a plan if you took NSCC 1010 First Year Experience. Then you can open that plan and revise it as needed.
