Spring 2021 Jumpstart: Get Started

Each of these Nashville State Associate degrees is 60-61 credits. A typical college class is 3 credits, so an Associate degree typically has 20 required classes. If you earn an Associate transfer degree, the plan is to earn another 60 credits at the next college for a total of 120 credits for a Bachelors degree. 

• AAS = Associate of Applied Science: Leads directly to a job. 
• AA = Associate of Arts: Leads to credits that will transfer. You should consider where you would like to transfer as that can influence which classes you take. An AA degree has a 6-credit foreign language requirement.
• AS = Associate of Science: Like AA this is a transfer degree but with no foreign language requirement.
• AST = Associate of Science in Teaching: A transfer degree for a Bachelors of Science in Teaching.
• AFA = Associate of Fine Arts: A transfer degree for a Bachelors of Fine Arts.
• TTP = Tennessee Transfer Pathway: If the transfer degree is a TTP, there are strict requirements for all the classes you take, but then all 60 credits will transfer to a public Tennessee University. If the transfer degree below is a TTP, TTP will be noted next to the degree name.
