ECED2340: Family and Community Engagement Project

This research guide is designed to assist with the Family and Community Engagement Project in the ECED 2340 course.

Assignment Overview

  • Read the Family and Community Engagement guidelines.
  • Read the grading rubric noting expectations for each rating level.
  • Review the NAEYC Professional Standards and Competencies addressed in the assignment. The grading rubric is based on the candidate’s knowledge, understanding, and application of the standards in the work submitted.
  • Part One: Family Interview - Conduct an in-person family interview and complete the family interview questions. Must obtain written consent from the family for participation. The interview questions and answers must be turned into the assignment dropbox.
  • Part Two: Family Profile - After the family interview, prepare your Family Profile
  • Part Three: Community Resources to Support Families and Build Partnerships – Visit and interview a community agency/specialist and collect a variety of resources to support the family interviewed. Candidates should consider the family’s responses to the interview questions as they identify other community resources to support the family in fostering their child’s learning and development. Include the community agency/specialist interview questions and answers.
  • Part Four: Using Community Resources to Support the Child and Family - review the available resources and discuss how you would share this information with the family. Identify one high-quality “already made” resource that you would share with the family. Provide a list with detailed descriptions of other community resources that would be beneficial to the family.
  • Part Five: Personal Reflection Based on Ethical Responsibilities to Families and Building Relationships with Children – complete personal reflections based on this experience.
  • Part Six: Participate in the Collaborative Discussion Board
  • Submit Project to the assignment dropbox. Include a self-graded rubric. Upload the Project to ePortfolio.
